Kohls has authored a number of scripts for stage, television and film. In Lansing MI, Kohls wrote and directed two musical videos with his band i-Tense and a one-act play, all of which were televised on Michigan State University's cable station. Kohls' stage musical, "How I Saved the World", premiered at San Francisco's Intersection for the Arts in 1987. Additional music composition, arrangements, and musical direction was by the late Gregory Hale Jones, direction by Dennis Lowery. How I Saved the World was also performed at Chicago's Black Bear Theater and directed by Thom Hewitt. Two of Kohls' one-act plays, "Porkchop - Love is a Rare Thing" and "Passing On" were also performed at The Intersection for the Arts.

Kohls has performed and written music for several bands in Lansing MI and San Francisco. Among these were i-Tense, Infant Bonds of Joy, Wimpy Savage, Dinner Noise and Part-Time Christians. He has done numerous independent and collaborative musical projects with several artists, most notably Gregory Hale Jones and Glenn Scantlebury.

Kohls took a long hiatus from writing and music composition to concentrate on his interest in baseball and played in a highly competitive amateur league in the Bay Area and on travelling teams competing throughout the U.S.

In 2005, Kohls began work on his first feature-length screenplay "Kitty's Box". Very early into the process he contacted his old theater and music partner Boe Davis for some much needed support. They have been a writing team since and have several scripts in various stages of production.

Boe Davis has been involved in music and theatre his whole life. From an early age he participated in choir, theatre productions and various bands.

In the early 1980’s he singing with i-Tense in Lansing Michigan. After leaving Lansing, DJ'd at a university station in northern Michigan, WNMC 90.9 FM. where two years later he was promoted to station manager. Mr. Davis' programming focused on alternative music may have been one of the first of its kind in the Midwestern United States.

In 1983, Davis moved to San Francisco and rejoined Kohls and his performance group Dinner Noise. Out of this project came Wimpy Savage. This minimalist band comprised of David Kohls and Boe Davis was an intensive collaboration. Working with little more than an idea or snippet of a lyric, beer and red beans and rice, Wimpy Savage created sonic sounds, purposeful noise and a creative process still shared between both men.

With the addition of bassist/keyboardist, Ricki Sara Bennett, Wimpy Savage became the Infant Bonds of Joy - a hard-to-classify band based on the hard-to-classify principles established in Wimpy Savage. Their self-titled album was A copy of the self-titled album produced in 1986 was produced by Norman Salant with two additional songs produced by Gregory Hale Jones. (A copy of the record recently sold on EBay for $155 - that's right $155!) After the record's release, Jones joined the trio as a keyboardist to play the local Bay Area club scene.

IBOJ morphed into a theatrical team with the production of the stage musical "How I Saved the World". Kohls' original score and book featured Davis in the lead role as Tab Stop. Following that the group created Skitsophrenia, a collection of one-act plays and musical interludes. The work's central piece was Kohls' one-man, one-act play, "Porkchop (Love Is a Rare Thing)" directed by Dennis Lowery. Davis starred in the solo role of Jake Barnett. Twenty years later, "Porkchop" would become the basis for their current screenplay "Mis-fortune BBQ".

After a lengthy hiatus, Davis and Kohls have resurrected Wimpy Savage (the principles, not the music production) as the foundation for their film vision. Wimpy Savage Productions currently has several projects in various stages of production.
